Nessa's Emerald Nuzlocke Contest entry Mictlan by lugiamaster Nessa's Emerald Nuzlocke Contest entry Mictlan by lugiamaster
So I decided to do a contest thing. I ADORE Nessa's Nuzlocke; the story, artstyle... EVERYTHING. So anyways, on to the description/rationale for the picture: In Aztec mythology, the feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl had a sort of "sibling" named Xolotl, a dog-like diety.
"Xolotl, the Twin, the Shapeshifter, Venus as the Evening Star, the Lord of the West, Double of Quetzalcoatl." One of my favorite stories of these two is when Quetzalcoatl went to the Aztec underworld, Mictlan, to retrieve the bones from those who inhabited the previous world (Nahui Atl) to create new life for the present world, Nahui Ollin, the sun of movement.
I figured, who better to reperesent this adventuring duo than Fenrir (the Mightyena) and Jormungandr (the Gyarados). So here we see them as they try to collect as many bones as quickly as possible. I mean, I sure wouldn't want to hang out in a place like Mictlan for very long. While trying to stick to their original designs, I added a feathered headdress and facepaint to Jormungandr, and Xolotl's collar to Fenrir.
Here's a pretty good translation of the story, for anyone interested:…

What surprises me, is that the characters are really well done, and yet the backgound seems to have been done... really quickly. (The stairs...) =/ Still, a very great artwork !

Very nice :) I love how cool they look with their accessories. I never heard many myths on Quetzalcoatl, so its interesting to hear this one ^^
